Beking's Poultry Farm
Established in the 1960s by Gerrit Beking, Beking’s Poultry Farm is a third-generation family farm located just south of Ottawa in Oxford Station. Currently operated by David, Kris, and Colleen, the farm has become a leader in animal welfare standards, transitioning in 2005 to entirely cage-free operations. All chickens on the farm have access to nests and perches, as well as scratch areas to dust bathe; additionally, the certified organic eggs come from chickens who have access to outdoor pasture, and whose diet is supplemented with locally-sourced certified organic feed. On top of their welfare standards, Beking’s is also actively working towards a net-zero carbon footprint in efforts to produce a truly “green egg”. These additional efforts include the use of heat exchangers (that allow the barn to be heated almost entirely by the body heat of the chickens in the winter), solar panels, and a manure composter that turns chicken manure into a useable soil amendment. FarmScore is proud to offer eggs from a farm that carefully considers its impact on the planet.
